News Letter July 31st

Hello Everyone,
The convention season around the country has been absolutely insane fun! It seems like the comic book and game industries are really hitting their stride! At the San Diego Comic Con we sold a ton of card and board games. Things like Gloom by Atlas, Fluxx by Looney Labs, We Didn’t Playtest This Game by Asmadi were red hot!
Many folk in our hobby over the years have often refered to our passions as geek culture. Our question is when does geek culture stop being considered fringe and become recognized as the new black? The geeks shall inherit the Earth!

Comic books continue to ride the wave of mainstream popularity with the Avengers and the Dark Knight movies looking like they will account for a major percentage of Hollywoods profits this year.

Anyway, this weeks e-mail also includes subversive suggestions, questionable judgements and of course, the new comic book list.

Hope you are well and hope to see you soon!
Thanks!
Your Friends at the Source!

LOCAL COMIC BOOK ARTIST  NEEDS YOUR HELP!

Working on Kickstarter to  Fund His First Independent Project!
Local artist Clint Hilinski has decided to try and fund his first creator owned  comic book  project via Kickstarter! He’s an exceptionally talented, cool  cat sort of guy and really deserves a chance to start up his own project! We’re  asking you to help in a couple of ways:

1) If you can, please make a donation (he’s got some reslly great premiums!)  and 2) Please help spread the word  about this project in any way you can! Here’s a brief description of his project  in his own words: “Pirate Queen is the  story of Ava Bloodstone, captain of the Star Raider and her crew of space  pirates. A motley crew of scoundrels and cutthroats headed up by her second in  command, Zora Astra. Our story starts out with Ava trying to fleece another crew  of alien pirates of their recently stolen treasure but when the aliens discover  Ava’s plans she quickly finds herself on the ships plank hovering precariously  above the alien desert floor thousands of feet below. I’m really looking forward  to getting to work on this project. It will be my first creator owned book and I  need all the help I can get. I’ve worked as an artist in comics for the last 17  years on projects as big as the Justice League for DC to as fun as drawing the  Greatest American Hero comic. A show that I was a huge fan of as a kid. Other  projects I’ve worked on include GI Joe, Voltron, Lady Death, Kiss, Xena Warrior  Princess, Youngblood, and many others. But this one I may be even more excited  about. All money raised for the project will go directly into production of the  series. THANKS FOR YOUR HELP!
