   Hello Everyone!

Sorry this newsletter comes a bit late this week.  So much going on in the store this week, lost track of time.

Lisa talks comics in what my become a regular feature “I’m Glad You Asked”.  Check it out.

This Saturday starting at 3pm we will once again prance at the chance to host the pre-release for the My Little Pony CCG.  Details below.

Lots of reprints arrived this week. Invader Zim #1, Mad Max Fury Road Max #1, DC Bombshells #1 and Lumberjanes Vol 1 is back too.

Wolverine is still dead. But might be getting better…

 I’m Glad You Asked
by Lisa
What’s cool this week, Lisa? I’M GLAD YOU ASKED.

An extremely cool thing this week is the first ever Fantagraphics monthly
comic. You may know Fantagraphics as the independent publisher of very cool collections and reprints, books by unique and international artists, all of them gorgeously bound art objects. Take all of that pedigree and quality and put it behind “Hip Hop Family Tree,” a history of Hip Hop culture, originally published as a hardcover collection. Now Family Tree is being reprinted, in monthly format, with additional features. The inaugural issue is 25 pages chock full of cultural history and art, along with a panel-by-panel writer commentary, and it’s only $3.99. I won’t even go into how excited I am to have a non-fiction monthly on the rack, especially one about such a diverse, vibrant corner of pop culture that most people know so little about. I’ve been looking forward to this for months and I love that it’s as great as I’d hoped. The only thing I’d like more now is if Fantagraphics launched more monthly titles.

In what is fittingly the most absurd Secret Wars shake up, Howard the Duck crash lands on Battleworld as “Howard the Human,” in New Quack City, a grimy city full of talking animals. If I have already argued with you about the new Howard the Duck and how great it is and you haven’t checked it out yet, then I don’t know how to help you and I’m sorry you hate fun and joy and laughter. Marvel let Chip Zdarsky off the leash on Howard and the result has been five straight issues of belly laughs and unattractive snorting while I read it. It is NOT the Howard that you didn’t like or
“get” however many years ago. It’s funny and snarky and full of easter eggs and lots of gags at Spiderman’s expense. Now that Howard is a Human, he’s being written briefly for Secret Wars by Skottie Young with art by Jim Mahfood. It’s wacky. If you like comics you will probably love it. If not you can make your unhappy, Grumpy Cat face at me and I’ll feel bad for you.

Marvel has another great genre romp this week with Secret Wars: Secret Love. Five romance/love/fangirling tales feature Ms Marvel, Ant-Man, Squirrel Girl, Thor, Daredevil, Misty Knight and Danny Rand… I admit I thought this sounded dumb when I first heard about it but Squirrel Girl wins a date with Thor and starts naming each of his individual abdominal muscles. Spoiler: one is named “Aloysius.” It’s disorientinly awesome for an event book, and a fantastic companion to Howard the Human. You know, if you like fun.

As long as I’m on the topic of fun, let’s add serious action, elite assassins and wild art: Boom! kills it again with another #1, “Welcome Back.” Avoid spoilers. Just jump on now.

Upping the intense, action meter, Black Mask launches another new series this week called “Young Terrorists,” which I imagine will sell out more or less instantly like every other single first issue they’ve published. It’s probably already sold out. Sort of like “Disciple” did, the third issue of which is out this week too. And as it is a day called “Wednesday,” there are new Star Wars titles available: Star Wars #8 and Kanan #4.

I’m excited about plenty of other books this week (Invader Zim #2! Archie
#2! Power Up #2! Giant Days!) but this is a newsletter and not a manifesto
so I will just refer you to the master list for more titles. And weigh in
on any of our social media outlets or let us know when you’re in the shop
what you love this week.

Welcome back to Tim’s corner.

Welcome to Tim’s corner where it’s been hot lately.  Weather in Minnesota can be too hot, or too cold.  For the summer heat, bring a stack of comics and find a cool spot to sit and read.  The Source has a huge variety to choose from.  (Buying things other than comics to read from the Source is okay too).  Here are the some of the new things to discover in the drawers at the Source.  Titles include Archie’s Weird Mysteries, Avengers Vol2,3, Captain America Vol1 late 200s, DC Vs Marvel, Man from U.N.C.L.E., Action late 400s, 800s, Astonishing Xmen, Robin, Weird Western Tales, Necroscope, Warlock & the Inifinity Watch, Web of Spiderman, Brave & the Bold vol1, Conan the Barbarian (Marvel) 80-90s, Daredevil some early issues and some in the 200s, DC Comics Presents vol1, Spiderman volt (Peter Parker), and Superman’s Pal Jimmy Olsen.  Also in in our Golden Age selection, some issues of  Smokey the Bear.  Happy reading,

Tim
