The summer is just around the coroner and with it will come the Convention Season with all of the great teasers , interviews and celebrates that make us go back again and again. Well this Saturday we are hosting a perfect event to start off the season, In Store Convention Kickoff. Get a chance to see some of comics biggest names talk about what great new projects they are working on this year. You can only see this Live Streaming Event at your Local Comic Shop like Source Comics and Games…. We also have some great local Creators that are going to join us to show us what cool work they are doing this year.
Don’t miss out on Lisa’s Glad You Asked article. This week she gives us the insight into what you might have missed in this Months Previews Magazine.
So much good looking stuff coming up in Previews! I’ll skip the CIVIL WAR 2 and SCOOY DOO APOCALYPSE stuff because what could I possibly say that those titles don’t?
In Things-You-Might-Not-Have-Noticed the first is MAE #1 (Dark Horse, pg 56) Now an ongoing series triggered by Gene Ha’s most recent Kickstarter project. Ask at the store about the book and we may have some extra awesome stuff that goes with it from Gene himself.
KAIJUMAX Season 2 #1 (Oni, pg 383) Zander Cannon was just in the shop last week signing the new trade containing the six episodes that make up season one. You know what a blast this book about a high security prison island for Kaiju is. This time around: Lady Robot’s turn.
DARK HORSE PRESENTS #22 (Dark Horse, pg 61) from Previews: “In this issue if Harvey-Award winning Dark Horse Presents, Jeff Lemire introduces readers to the last surviving coven of extraterrestrial witches in the heartbreakingly magical story The Witches of Mars!” Every.
One. Of. Those. Words.
CONSTANTINE: THE HELLBLAZER #12 (DC, pg 87) Travel Foreman is the artist on this issue! It you aren’t familiar with that name, he was the original artist on the New 52 Animal Man. That art was completely bananas and I’ve been just loving this newest Constantine book. Everything about this sounds like a match made in hell. Which is a good thing for something called “Hellblazer.” …right? Yes. It’s awesome.
SUPERMAN: AMERICAN ALIEN #7 (DC, pg 111) More artist excitement: JOCK! It would be pointless for me to try and list all of the eyeball exploding art Jock has made. My personal faves are probably his Detective Comics Black Mirror run with Scott Snyder and Green Arrow with Andy Diggle. I’m officially in agony waiting for this last issue of AMERICAN ALIEN now. The story is each issue is a separate event in Clark Kent’s life, drawn by a different artist. It’s been a cool ride and the way the story showcases the artists is awesome. Can’t wait to see Jock’s version of this world.
PINK PANTHER #1 (American Mythology, pg 274) This is going to be an extreme amount of fun. One of the variant covers has the Ant and the Aardvark on it. Crossing my fingers for weird and hilarious.
POWER UP tpb (Boom, pg 312) This story is bight,
fun, and has a goldfish that gains the power to transform into a whale in his fishbowl. If you like the freewheeling Boom! Box sense of humor in books like Lumberjanes, Giant Days or Jonesy, you owe it to yourself to flip through this trade.
EVERYTHING IS TEETH (Pantheon, pg 391) What I know about this indie graphic novel is that the cover looks cool and it’s written by Evie Wyld. I picked up her last novel, ‘All the Birds; Singing’, and was completely floored. I vowed to read everything else she ever writes and she wrote a comic. Perfect.
AGATHA: THE REAL LIFE
OF AGATHA CHRISTIE, THE ART MASTERS SERIES VOL 3: MUNCH (SelfmadeHero, pg395) Biography in comic form is really cool and it’s being used more and more. And the more it’s used the more creators are experimenting with how it can be used. Both of these books are in that spirit and I need both of them.
