Halloween ComicFest was great. Thanks to Otis, Lupi, and the folks from YogaQuest for helping Lisa and the gang make a fun, memorable event.
Chad had a chance to catch the opening weekend for a one of a kind live theater performance from Six Elements Theater in Minneapolis. She Kills Monsters by Qui Nguyen is a celebration of what makes Role Playing Games unique and timeless. It was a very moving script done by an energetic cast using humor, stage combat and puppets to tell the story of a young woman learning about her younger sister’s life via a D&D module her sister had wrote before a tragic car crash. Six Elements is well known for there annual Human Combat Chess shows and those fighting skills are used to bring the stage alive with epic clashes with Orcs, Bugbears and Dragons. Don’t miss this show. More info below including how to get tickets.
Tickets may still be available for the taping of MPRs Science Friday Tuesday night at 7pm at the Fitzgerald Theater in St.Paul. University of Minnesota Professor Jim Kakalios will be talking about the real Physics behind our favorite superheroes. More info including how to get tickets can be found below.
DC has some of the greatest variants this week with Looney Tunes themed covers. Check them out.
James Bond – Warren Ellis … Just take my money!!! James Bond #1 Seriously, this could be the best comic of the year. James Bond has not had a comic in a very long while and these are original stories written by on of comics greatest writers and art that is simply breathtaking. It should keep us for the few days until Specter comes to theaters.
Wolverine is still dead.
The Source Crew
“A comedic romp into the world of fantasy role-playing games, She Kills Monsters tells the story of Agnes Evans as she leaves her childhood home in Ohio following the death of her teenage sister, Tilly. When Agnes finds Tilly’s Dungeons & Dragons notebook, however, she stumbles into a journey of discovery and action-packed adventure in the imaginary world that was Tilly’s refuge. In this high-octane dramatic comedy laden with homicidal fairies, nasty ogres, and 90s pop culture, acclaimed young playwright Qui Nguyen offers a heart-pounding homage to the geek and warrior within us all.”
This show features fantastical combat, monstrous puppet creatures, and a dance off. What else do you need? Combining high spectacle with an exploration of family relationships, loss, and what it means to be an outcast, “She Kills Monsters” is squarely in the Six Elements’ wheelhouse.

On November 3rd, Science Friday will join Minnesotans to talk the science of superheroes.
On November 3rd, Science Friday goes beyond the realm of Marvel and DC comics to look at the science of superpowers. Ira Flatow (and his team of caped crusaders) will explore real-life inventions that would fit right in among the Avengers or the Justice League, like an ultrasonic glove that lets firefighters “see” through smoke and an x-ray gun that uncovers the true colors of Vincent Van Gogh.
Plus, Jim Kakalios, University of Minnesota physicist and author of The Physics of Superheroes, and long time friend of Source Comics and Games, will explain what happens when comic book superheroes come into conflict with real-life physics. Think you understand how Spiderman swings into action? Join in as Ira and Jim pit comics experts against engineers in a live game show to see who knows more.
All that, plus a guest appearance from the people behind MPR’s own science podcast Brains On!, exploring the superpower of regrowing limbs. How do lizards, sea stars, and salamanders pull it off? And could we humans learn any tricks to enhance our invincibility?
