Relief of the Legation Quarter

14 August 1900 Peking, China

Forces of the European-dominated 8-Power Alliance forced the gates of the city of Peking en route to relieve the besieged Legation Quarter. An impressive array of troops including US Marines, Bengal Lancers and Russian Cossacks repeatedly stormed the city walls in efforts to crush Imperial Chinese resistance. The Imperial Chinese Army, armed and equipped to modern standards, took to the walls supported by militia armed with muzzleloaders, while bands of the Brotherhood of Righteous Harmonious Fists roamed the streets just inside the walls. But bolt action rifles, bravery and dedication to the Imperial throne were not enough to save the day. US Marines scaled the walls, sweeping the parapets of resistance with a dashing bayonet charge while the Bengal Lancers rushed the gates. Resistance ended shortly thereafter, with Imperial Army units withdrawing in good order and the Boxers escaping into the shadows.

The game featured Brent’s 15mm figures and a nice model of the city walls provided by Ray. Brent hosted the game and used Fields of Honor rules. Look for a sequel game featuring the relief of the Legations at a date to be announced. Thanks to Brent and to all who played; this was a great game.
